Previous Day Day1313 Next Day
Just when I grabbed my coat and wanted to leave my house today morning, someone knocked at the door. I opened it and saw three Insomida Guards waiting outside. The middle one came one step closer and handed me a sheet of paper, signed by Officer Weiler. I couldn't believe the words my eyes read. Carana had been imprisoned two days ago! Now they apologized for their mistake and wanted me to pick her up at jail! I just didn't know what to say, I couldn't find the proper words so I just cursed in the loudest way possible. The guards blinked. I ripped the paper into pieces and went straight to jail, right into Weiler's office.
"What have you done to my wife and what excuse do you have this time?" I shouted.
"Good morning, Sir Sivand! I'll get your wife out of her cell. Guards!" he said with his forced smile on his face. Two guards went to the cell, and a few seconds later they appeared again with Carana. She looked more than exhausted. I ran to her and hugged her.
"Are you alright? What have they done to you? Are you hurt?" I whispered in her ear.
"I'll get over it," she whispered back. "I can stand on my own feet, so it can't be so bad, can it?"
I took her by her right hand and went to Weiler's desk.
"So? I'm listening," I said.
"Well, there has been a confusion," Weiler explained with that neverending grin in his face, that I so wanted to... destroy at that moment.
"A confusion!?" I shouted and hit on his desk with my right fist. Some pencils fell down on the ground and my hand hurt after this, but I didn't notice back then. "Who does she look like? A thief? A murderer? Or even a rapist?"
"Sir Sivand, there is really no need to get unfriendly about it," Weiler said.
"Oh really? I bet my wife has had a buffet every day to eat from, a new set of clothes every second hour and oh yes, a bed with a canopy, and the view outside the window was fabulous!"
One of the guards drew his sword, came closer and pointed it at my throat. I suddenly had a deja-vu.
"Sir Sivand. I apologized already. We took care of your, might I say, very attractive wife in the best way possible," Weiler stood up from his chair, went around his table, slowly walking towards me with one of those brown bags in his hands. "You will get another compensation for this, so there really is no need to fight about the situation here, am I right?"
He handed me the bag, I took it and the guard put his sword back into its sheath.
"Have a nice day," Weiler said and went back to his chair. We left the building.
On our way home Carana told me what had happened. Three days ago after we had a fight she spent the night at Inosa's house - just as I suspected. The next day on her way to school two Insomida Guards just arrested her and took her into jail. Officer Weiler didn't tell her why she was arrested, he just told her to undress and as she refused, the guards ripped off her clothes. Naked, they threw her into a cell. She told me that the cell just had been cleaned by the previous inhabitant who had strangled himself with his own hair. Wasn't that the same thing they were telling me about my cell before they had thrown me in? She also said that the only cover she had was the clothes of the criminal. Although today morning they threw her own clothes into her cell, probably because by then they had figured out their mistake or something and they were about to send out the three guards that picked me up at home.
Back in our house I prepared something to eat for her, she really looked weak and pale. She's sleeping already now. It's afternoon, but I won't go out anymore and watch over Carana instead.
Tartek is probably worried about me. But before I talk to Tartek tomorrow, I've got something else to do.
